Learn to make a beautiful low-poly lamp finished with a stained-glass effect: a modern take on a colorful classic.

 

We will be using 3ds Max to modify this model found on Thingaverse. Download a free 3ds Max trial here and the Thingiverse model here.

 

Once your Thingiverse download has completed, extract the ZIP file and use 3DS Max to open up either the STL called ‘dunny_no_support’ or ‘munny_no_support’ (your choice).

 

Import each item (arms, head, torso) individually in your3DS Max workspace. We'll need to use the 'Optimize' filter to reduce the number of polygons that make up each object. This will give it the lamp the low poly look. We will also need a ‘post’ that will hold our lights within the lamp.

 

Draw a cylinder that is 40mm in diameter, and extrude it 150mm. On either face draw a concentric circle of 50mm. Extrude that larger circle outwards 10mm. Save your files, and open Cura.
